I have been making this for many years. It has been passed down to me from a previous generation and it’s my son’s favorite. Try it you won’t be disappointed, everyone will love it.
Ingredients you will need:
- 1/2 cup of long grain rice
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- one quart plus 2 cups of whole milk divided
- one teaspoon of vanilla extract
- one beaten egg
- pinch of salt (optional)
Cooking Directions:
- Pour hot water over 1/2 cup of rice. Drain and pour into pot. Add 1/2 cup of sugar and one quart (32 oz) of whole milk and bring to a boil. (do not use a lid) Turn heat down to simmer for 45 minutes. Stirring occasionally.
- Add one teaspoon of vanilla, pinch of salt, one beaten egg and two cups of remaining milk. Bring to a boil for a few minutes. Pour into festive serving dish and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Serve size: 1 cup
